Flying Triangle Highlight

It had been a long day at Chris Brennan’s Westside Submission Championship.  Definitely a rough tournament.  I lost my first two matches by submission, and had 5 more to go in the round robin style pairings.  In this tournament, submission was rewarded with 3 points per match, a win on points earned 2, a draw was one point for each competitor, and a loss gave you nothing.  Even though I lost my first 2 matches, I submitted my next five opponents for the silver medal.  This wrestler was match 6 of 7, and definitely the toughest of the day. 

Regardless of weight, I have never wrestled anyone stronger, or more aggressive.  The minute I tied up with him I knew I would never match his strength, so I couldn’t ever oppose his force directly.  He kept taking me down and racking up points, and was penalized for retreating from the fight.  I was losing the match badly and only had about 30 seconds left.  Sometimes you have to dig deep inside yourself to realize you still have something left.
