The Martial Youth (MY) program is a powerful and progressive martial arts curriculum, designed for our next generation of leaders, ages 8-13.
MY is a clean, safe and highly controlled environment that fosters discipline, self control, and responsibility; fusing traditional elements of respect with self defense skills that incorporate both fitness and fun. Completion of the MY curriculum puts the student on the fast track to their first adult rank in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the highly desired blue belt.
At age 14, students can graduate to the Roy Dean Academy for advanced study.
Who is the instructor?
Chief instructor of the Martial Youth program is Mr. Roy Dean. Mr. Dean holds black belt ranks in several martial arts, including Judo, Aikido, Japanese and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Most of Mr. Dean’s life has been spent studying under the finest teachers of their respective disciplines, and he is happy to pass on this knowledge to his students. A more detailed description of his training can be found here. Parents may also find the following tribute of interest.
Is a uniform required?
Yes, a uniform (or gi) is required for participation in class. The official MY patch must be worn on the back. Uniforms with patches are available for purchase at the Academy.
What are the times and tuition for this program?
Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4-5 p.m. Monthly tuition for Martial Youth classes is $99.
My child has already trained in other arts. Is this OK?
Absolutely! Whether your child has experience in karate, tae kwon do, or another martial art, their previous training will benefit them in the Martial Youth program. Cross training is very important for the development of body coordination (also known as kinesthetic awareness). The movements and techniques students learn in the MY curriculum will prepare them for any sport or physical endeavor they may engage in.
