What the critics are saying!

I’ve personally seen quite a few white to blue belt instructional videos, but this one has set a new standard. The instruction is clear and concise and the production itself is top notch. I can only hope that Roy chooses to produce more videos in the future for all of us to benefit from, especially for purple belt and higher.

Roy Dean is a BJJ blackbelt under Roy Harris and you can clearly see the influence of Roy in his own teaching style. He is very well spoken, articulate and precise. He shows everything slowly and with great detail so you really understand how a technique works.

I received the Blue Belt Requirements DVD and I could not stop watching it. I watched both DVDS straight through and they were FULL of information, much more than I expected! All the information is presented very clearly and personable. I felt like I was taking a class more than watching an instructional DVD.

I think that any blue belt that became proficient at the techniques shown would have an excellent base from which to pursue further study of BJJ, and he would be able to justify and defend his ranking against all comers

The key to effective Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a solid understanding of the fundamentals.  In this instructional 2 DVD set, Roy Dean outlines his blue belt requirements for BJJ.  Mount escapes, sidemount escapes, armlocks, chokes, leg locks, guard passes and takedowns are all clearly detailed.  Also included are perspectives on the journey from white belt to black belt, a look at BJJ combinations, competition footage, and 3 dynamic blue belt demonstrations.

What the critics are saying!

“I found the way you teach is very detail oriented, which is a great quality in a instructor...”

- Marcelo Garcia - 3x ADCC Champion

“Roy Dean is a black belt product of the Roy Harris style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: methodical, meticulous, and masterful.”

- Black Belt Magazine

“The teaching method exemplified by Roy Dean shows Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the very best light: as an art, a science and a philosophy.”

- Stephan Kesting - Grapplearts.com

“This DVD is not your average instructional...it is the way that both instructors break down each technique into fine detail, and the way they pass on this information in easy to digest segments, that sets this DVD out from the pile.”

- Lockflow.com

“Overall, I think this DVD is a must have for the enthusiast or the beginner.  In fact, if you’ve never done BJJ in your life and are on the fence with trying it out, this would be the first DVD I would recommend you purchase.”

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Seminars: Year One delivers 2 BJJ black belt seminars on one disc in the inaugural year of the Roy Dean Academy.

The Alaska Seminar was a birthday celebration for Robert Grunder of Gracie Barra Alaska. The subject of this clinic was a high percentage submission combination, and includes full length sparring with seminar participants.

Summer 2007 is a tightly edited version of the morning seminar session in Bend, Oregon. Escapes, sidemount attacks, rear mount attacks, the armlock, triangle, and combinations into the triangle are shown.

Jimmy DaSilva showcases both technical ability and a fighter’s heart in the Purple Belt Test. Praised on YouTube as “BY FAR, the SINGLE BEST grappling video on the internet displaying such incredibly clean technique,” it is globally regarded as an inspiring demonstration of the athleticism, technical depth, and fortitude necessary for the rank. Requirements included mount and sidemount escapes, headlock escapes, takedowns and throws, submissions, combinations, and sparring 5 minute rounds with 2 blue belts and 2 black belts.

In the Roy Harris Seminar, watch the 3rd degree black belt and impart his wisdom on maintaining open guard control, including specific places on how and where to push with your feet, knees, elbows, and hands. He also reveals counters to common guard passing scenarios posed by skilled opponents. With over 300 seminars taught globally, Mr. Harris effortlessly explains the techniques of BJJ and concepts that they rest upon.

Westside Submission takes you deep into the Southern California BJJ scene as Roy Dean enters Chris Brennan’s classic round robin tournament as a purple belt. The Westside Submission Championship is known for attracting intense competitors from a variety of disciplines, as there are no rank divisions, only weight classes. Enjoy 5 straight submissions set to music, including a spectacular flying triangle in a match that epitomizes technique vs. strength.

What Does Jiu Jitsu Look Like?” is a BJJ commercial professionally shot in San Diego with Harris Academy members.
