New (and Old) Videos
Put two new videos up last night, Gracie Barra Alaska and Jiai Aikido. GB Alaska was originally a 30 second commercial for my new grappling class on Saturdays. I shot some of it myself, one clip was from a Brennan tournament, some of it Mr. Harris shot during the filming of one of his instructionals. It ran during Ultimate Fighter Season 2 in San Diego, my first start to finish production to make it on air. I was pretty happy with it. I wished the footage could have been a bit more uniform, and I knew I had to kick it up a notch for the next one. Later, I made this version for my friend Ted Stickle, chief instructor at Gracie Barra Alaska, where it ran on air and at on screen at Alaskan Fighting Championship events.
The next project was for the Aikido side of the school. Jeff Sodemon invited his best training partners and students for the shoot. I hired a lighting assistant, and shot it at 24 frames a second, film rate. Totally different look, I couldn’t believe it was the same camera when I got it into editing. Wrote the appropriate music and let Jeff decide which he preferred; this version has strings, the other was darker with just percussion. He opted for the more positive of the 2, and it has been well received on his his site and on YouTube. Many of my old competition matches are up there under my screenname uchideshi. The quality is much better though, if viewed through this site.
