  1. The comradery that develops among BJJ practitioners is one of the aspects of the gentle art that make it so great.  The people we roll with, sweat with, bleed with, and laugh with are such an integral part of our experience in Jiu Jitsu.  I miss RDA, for multiple reasons, but especially because of guys like Tom.  He always showed up to the Academy with his ego checked at the door and with nothing but words of encouragement and kindness.  Tom is a genuine and honest guy who is generous with his smile and always quick to pat you on the back
Congrats on your Blue Tom, I am truly sorry I missed it.  It was awesome to see you in action, your spirit is what makes you so much fun to roll with and is what shined through in your demo.

Great triangles by the way.  Tom’s using his legs more, LOOKOUT!!!

  3. Fantastic Tom!
What a clean display of heart, technique, and mindfulness.  I am so bummed I missed it, but I am thrilled to have kind dedicated folks like you join me and my RDA brothers—and sisters—on this fantastic journey.

  4. That’s my big brother! We used to wrestle as kids. I think I recognize those moves from back in 1973.
    Way to go, Tommy!

  5. Bernie said it perfectly.  I’m honored to be able to call you a friend and training partner.  I too am bummed I missed this one.  Here’s to many more years of training, laughs, and friendship.  Great job Tom, and wear that belt with pride!

  6. Congratulations, Tom.  What I noticed most was maintaining technical execution of movements while under pressure.  The more I work with less experienced people, the more I appreciate this as a gauge for being ready for blue belt.  You definitely demonstrated that you more than ready for this promotion.  Very well deserved indeed.

  7. That’s my little brother.  I think having 4 older sisters is how he learned to defend himself so well.  Way to go Tom!
    Love you!
