Congratulations Roy!
I enjoy tuning in and watching your belt test videos. Such a great idea, and in HD quality too! I learn something every time I watch.
You have taken BJJ to a new level of artistry and fluidity. You have a fantastic vision, Roy.

Congratulations Sensei. You should be very proud of all that you have accomplished in your journey. All of us at the dojo are so fortunate to have you leading the way. Thank you.

It was most definitely an honor to participate in your test Roy. Your “never say die” high energy output was inspiring to say the least. Your academy has changed my life in so many ways…from functional strength and confidence to amazing friendships and even inner peace. Jiu Jitsu is such a beautiful art and you are a true ambassador. Thank you and congratulations.

Bummed beyond words that I couldn’t be a part of this, but this video is also inspirational beyond words. We rarely get to see Sensei truly turn it on during videos and this video captures what those of us who get to roll with Roy experience from time to time.
When I watch this video I see what I strive for in this art: impeccable timing, unimaginable sensitivity, phenomenal awareness, and near-flawless technique. Truly epic to witness. Martial art in its truest form.
Thank you, Sensei, for inspiring us as usual and congratulations to you on this success.
Humbly,
TJ

That was a incredible thing to be able to be there and witness such grace and technical ability. I would of drove 22hrs
one way to be a part of that all over again. Congratulations again on a awsome test you are a true inspiration for all who
get to work with you and your students.

Hi Roy,
Congratulations on your promotion! It is always refreshing to see an instructor being tested. To me, it shows the battles that you have been through to get where you are, the long hard training sessions that you have endured, how powerful and beautiful jiu jitsu is and that being a black belt is more than just accumulating a list of techniques, it is about building character and a true warrior spirit. Judging by the looks on your students faces, they couldn’t be more pleased to have you as an instructor.
Congratulations again.

Wow. Such a great demonstration of technique, flow and heart. I am so thankful for your presence in bjj. You are an inspiration and role model for those of us who would like to learn *more* than just how to win the fight - your movements help point me towards a path that preserves the ‘art’ in martial arts, and (from the comments above) it seems that your teaching also points your students towards growth off the mat. We are all so glad your path has been walked, and that we can share in the returns. Thanks for finding and walking the middle way - for helping to recombine the martial with the art.
I look forward to coming up and training with you all someday soon.
With much respect.

What an inspiration. I have never met Sensei Dean but watching this video and his Blue Belt Requirements makes me wish I lived in Bend. Those of you who get to practice at RDA are very fortunate. I only wish I had a school of this caliber near me. I am willing to travel 15 hours to get to meet you all and learn from Sensei Dean a few times a year. Wish you all the best and congratulations sir.
