Pathway to Escape Side Control

Here’s a video I put together for BJJ Weekly.com, showing one possible path out from side control.  I am looking to expand on this format for Brown Belt Requirements, which will be coming out this year!

  1. Beautifully explained! I can’t get enough of your stuff.

I’m sure you know this one, but I was reminded of a crafty kimura that can be applied during the turtle/sprawl escape that you show at the end.

A friend of mine demonstrates it here: http://www.youtube.com/user/Tolstiy1980#p/u/2/eb9u166SIzY

  6. Fantastic! Really, really looking forward to Brown Belt Requirements. I’m particularly keen on the area of side control escapes, as strangely enough, that’s one of my favourite group of techniques to practice (probably because I’m small, so frequently end up underneath side control).

  11. “Work with what you’ve got.”

It’s so obvious, but so easy to forget when you’re on the bottom.  Thank you for changing how I look at escapes Mr. Dean!
