Kellyn Smythe: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blue Belt

Congratulations to Kellyn on a superb blue belt demonstration.  Thanks to Paul Moresi (brown belt under Ralph Gracie) for being the final boss.  My knee is still recovering from a partial MCL tear (check my left knee at 7:05 in Bernie’s demo) and it was great to have him help out.  Bravo Kellyn!

  1. Superb is right.  That may very well be the smoothest Blue demonstration I have ever seen.  I will only refer to you as “Silk” from now on.

And your murder squad was BRUTAL.  Nobody was nice to you.  Excellent work though; I saw glimpses of your purple belt to come throughout.

  2. Kellyn - Great demo bro.  I wish I could have helped you out on this to pay you back for helping me out on my test when I was out there.  Sweet hip bump to triangle and your spinning arm bar looked smoth and like it was in fast forward.  Slick dude!

  3. Gameness. Was awesome to watch, and I’m really amazed at how fast you’ve progressed!

  4. Great Job Kellyn, sorry I missed it.  Techniques were on point.  Like TJ said that roster was STACKED but you showed tremendous heart and that’s what its all about.  New Blue to New Blue, I’m honored to share the road on this journey with you and many others at RDA.  Congrats man!

  5. Way to go Kellyn!  Very impressive demo.  It’s been a true pleasure training with you and watching your progression and passion.  Well deserved and hard earned blue.

  6. Like Houdini or James Bond… calm under pressure, and able to get out of almost anything. Awesome!
