Jeremy Williams Benefit DVD

2 Comments, Posted by: Roy Dean in: Media

A variety of black belts have made contributions for an instructional DVD to benefit the family of IFL rising star Jeremy Williams, and here is mine.  Jeremy was Chris Brennan’s first black belt, owner of Apex Jiu Jitsu, and was 2 and 0 in the IFL, coming out of retirement from MMA.  We were coming up through the ranks at the same time in Southern California, and you can even see Jeremy reffing some of my matches at the Westside Submission Championship, particularly in my match with the wrestler that I was forced to flying triangle.

  1. Roy- That flying tee was pretty amazing- I like how you wore him out with the choke then transitioned to the armbar.  Bend is a richer place to have you there.

I encourage anyone viewing this to purchase the J-Dub Memorial Seminar DVD when it comes out.  Whether you knew him or not, there are some really good strategies presented by top-notch instructors: Eddie Bravo, Rigan Machado, Felicia Oh, et al.

Being there for the seminar was sublime.  Kudos to Phil P for finding out about it.

  2. Roy - I liked the Kimura clip.  I never thought about bringing the elbow in to my body after securing the Kimura but before the sub.  A nice detail.

I was also suprised to see you cross your feet on the armbar from bottom.  I know a lot of guys do that from top (ie. Bravo’s Spider Web position), but I usually keep them uncrossed if I am on bottom.  Seems like you can get more leverage to drive their head down.  I would love to hear your perspective on crossed/uncrossed armbars.

    Ciao!
