Big Sur Meditation

I’ve been hard at work with Brown Belt Requirements, and the new book BJJ Journey.  Plus, the new website is about to launch.  So many projects in the works, and for so long, that sometimes I do a quick 1 day project to keep the mojo flowing.  Just to complete something.  Something with no commercial value.  Art for arts sake.  This is the latest example.  The song has been used before, but the mix is improved, and the drums are different.  This pictures are mirrored into something beautiful, but strangely alien.  Kaleidoscopic is the simplest manner.  Brown Belt Requirements will be here soon.  The mojo is flowing.

BJJ Triangle Choke App

The new app is out!  Originally a 3 hour seminar, the app is 55 minutes of instruction dedicated to my favorite submission, the triangle choke.  Mechanics, combinations, and counters are all covered.  A solid overview of what has turned out to be my highest percentage submission.

Jiu Jitsu Fest 2011

This year’s Jiu Jitsu Fest was fantastic, as usual, with the teaching talents of Keith Owen and Roy Harris on display.  Mr. Owen did a very clever side mount attack sequence, including a variation on feeding the kimura that I had never seen before.  Mr. Harris gave a lesson on pressure that few will forget, and I am excited about including some of that material for Brown Belt Requirements.  Because I was shooting for the upcoming DVD, I kept the seminar an in house affair, with some of the regular friends of the dojo coming over from Portland, California, Arizona, and Mississippi.  Thank you to all that made this weekend so special.

The parallels are obvious.  Balance.  Timing.  Precision.  Circles.  Quick and efficient motions.  It’s about using just enough strength, and doing as much as you can during small windows of opportunity.

This video is art.  It inspires me to do the same with jiu jitsu.  I continue on the path.

Going Light in BJJ Training

A little bit of genius from BJJ black belt Ken Primola.  Also look at his “no ego instructor” parody.  Classic.

I’m pleased to announce Higinbotham Martial Arts as the newest RDA Affiliate!  Head instructor Byron Higinbotham already has a great program going, and now I have the opportunity to add to that by guiding him through the ranks of BJJ.  I’m loving the Parkour component.  So much fun.  Byron, welcome to the club…

Silverback Seminar 2011

Some of the Silverback crew post seminar.  2 hours of instruction, 30 minutes Q & A, then 25 minutes of rolling.

It was a fantastic seminar weekend in Chantilly, Virginia as I revisiting Silverback Academy.  Headed up by Sean Stoopman, Silverback teaches BJJ and Krav Maga in a fun and safe environment.  The entire Silverback crew was tight knit and extremely welcoming.  Sean and his lovely girlfriend Megan played perfect hosts, and I was fortunate enough to have exquisite lunch and dinner company over the weekend.  The progress that Sean and assistant instructor Adam Munzig have shown is impressive, and each are on track for the next level.  There are some big changes coming for Silverback, including a new location, and the momentum is palpable.  I am inspired to give even more to my affiliates, and be there for them when they want to take their school to the next level, as well as venture into the world of media, DVDs, and apps.
