Affiliates FAQ
What is your vision for Affiliates?
Thank you for your interest. The vision for the Affiliate program is to form a select group of instructors, from around the world, looking to use the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a vehicle to improve their lives, and the lives of those around them.
Affiliation is not a patch. Affiliation is a path. It’s a guided way. An alignment of vision. A relationship that pulls you up the mountain, to go where you always knew you could.
I’ve been guided up that mountain by a master, and have decided to help others on the same path. This is my invitation to join in that process, and become a part of what you’ve seen so far.
This program is not for everyone. It is exclusive. I am only looking for the bright, the bold, and the dedicated. Affiliates must be motivated, willing to work, and unafraid of success.
Affiliation is about passion for the art. It is about creating an environment where it can be passed on in the right way.
Ultimately, it is about discovering who you are. One step at a time.
I’m interested in becoming an affiliate. What is the process like?
If this is a vision that interests you, here are the steps you must take:
1. A one page document detailing past training history, goals, and vision of their development in the art.
2. A face to face meeting. This will can be accomplished through a seminar, or by a visit to the main Academy in Bend. I will roll with you and feel where you’re at. We will plot a course for your development.
Current and prospective members are encouraged to attend the “Affiliate Instructors Course”, which will be held the weekend of April 24th, 2010. I will cover curriculum, class structures, and guidelines for creating a open learning environment.
3. Affiliates will be guided from their current rank. Those that are unranked but with experience can be evaluated. If the candidate still has work to do, I will personally go over the blue belt requirements in detail. The candidate should continue to train until they feel ready for another evaluation.
If they are deemed to be at the level of a blue belt, I will award it. I will also give the option of a demonstration of skill. There are many examples of these demonstrations. All affiliated instructors will have their performances recorded.
4. This affiliation program is designed for commercial academies, but private clubs are also eligible. International affiliations are encouraged.
5. Prospective affilates in Europe should contact Steve Greenaway for an initial evaluation.
6. Final determination of affiliation is at the sole discretion of Roy Dean.
