The Academy

Roy Dean Academy is a friendly environment offering the opportunity to study the refined art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Bend Oregon.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a sophisticated grappling system, which includes throws, hold downs, and submissions.  It can be practiced recreationally, or competitively, at all ages.  It is a powerful system of self defense, and forms the basis for the U.S. Army’s Modern Combatives program.  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu also is considered a foundational discipline for professional mixed martial artists.

Many of the techniques are well suited for women’s self defense situations.  Once a woman is taught how to use her hips against the isolated joint of an attacker, confidence increases.  While speed and strength will always be factors in physical altercations, a well trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, male or female, will be able to negate most of their opponent’s power through proper technique, leverage, and timing.

Regular practice encourages a high level of physical fitness, increased coordination, and camaraderie with your new friends.  Challenge yourself in training, and reap the benefits of improvement, on and off the mat.
